Our immersive weekend at the historic Capon Springs and Farms resort allows us to travel back in time to the mid-19th century. This year we particularly examine how people got to where they wanted to be when they left home in the mid-19th century. And there are things to learn about this. Find out the kinds of transportation available. Learn to pack luggage with historical flair, about travelling by horsepower, and other fascinating topics. Make an historical carry-strap, a silk neck-tie, and other material culture items. Join the CivCel book club class for a candid discussion on travel in the pre-war Southern states. Go on a field trip to promenade through an award-winning garden. Be wowed by the amazing Antiques Exhibition and learn even more from the educational Fashion Show. Dance the night away at our Victorian-style ball. And, of course, visit with some of the most wonderful history-loving people in our hobby, those friends you already know and many new friends you have yet to meet.

The 1860s Civilian Celebration is a full-dress event, both enjoyable and educational. Full-dress encourages immersing oneself in Civil War culture by donning period clothing and practicing period decorum and manners. Dressing in the manner of our predecessors similarly promotes a more personal appreciation for the time period and deeper understanding of the subjects covered in the various activities.
We will be honored to have you there. Please join us, and have a wonderful weekend.
