John Masciale is married to Elaine and is the father of David Masciale and Elise Kesner. John has been reenacting since 2001 when his son got him involved in a scouting Venturing Crew that focused on civil war reenacting. He has reenacted as a southern colporteur and chaplain. As a civilian he has reenacted as a traveling musician and as a minister. Wanting to play period music he picked up playing 19th century style banjo and bones. He is the founder and administrator of the Ning Minstrel Banjo Forum (minstrelbanjo.ning.com), which has over one thousand members and focuses on banjo history, and building and playing 19th century banjos. John is a dance master along with Elaine. He is co-author with Elaine of the book I Like That Good Old Song. John has been performing music for over 50 years and is the keyboardist at his church. He is also president of the Board of Elders. He has done extensive research into the religious history of the United States, banjo history, and minstrelsy.
