Marilyn Munch Sorvas has been a Civil War reenactor for 22 years, after discovering that two of her gr-grandfathers fought for the North. Her love of family history propelled her into genealogy, reenacting and collecting antiques. With so many 19th century family photos displayed at home, she laughingly admits her daughters thought they grew up in a museum.
Marilyn's professional background includes President of a 30-member small business association in a historic neighborhood where her family lived. She was a Docent for the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Association for a walking tour of that community, the Historic West End Village, formerly Temperanceville. She has been a writer for over 20 years and is Contributing Editor for The Homefront Herald, Inc. She has been a presenter at museums, libraries and historical societies, using the original, handwritten letters from the Civil War of her paternal gr-grandfather, George Washington Munch. Portions of those letters have been used in conjunction with music of the Pittsburgh Historical Music Society. She enjoys sewing, gardening and backyard wildlife. Boredom is not in her vocabulary. Look up “Jack of all Trades” in the dictionary – Marilyn will be pictured. Marilyn and her husband, Gregg, are members of The Potomac Citizens. |
