TOM & LESLIE MACK

Lesley and Tom Mack, both retired elementary school teachers and reenactors, founded the Shenandoah Valley Civil War Era Dance group in 2012. As Virginia residents, they both developed a great interest in the beautiful landscape and history of Virginia.

Dancing and the idea that funds could be raised to preserve battlefield lands serendipitously
enveloped them and guided their future. The dance group's goal is to preserve land and to share the tradition of dancing that our ancestors once enjoyed.

Since 2012, the all-volunteer, non-profit SVCWE Dancers have raised and donated over $26,000.00 for battlefield land preservation by dancing at reenactments, historical and community events, weddings, schools, birthday parties, and hosting their own annual preservation balls.

Tom and Lesley also host free and open to the public dance practice sessions in their area, several times a month. The dances they teach are from American period dance manuals from the early colonial era to the 1860's.
